What is the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) Code of Conduct?
The BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) Code of Conduct is a private, non-governmental, and non-profit European-wide initiative committed to improving labour conditions in the global supply chain in full compliance with the international human rights declaration and international labour law standards. This initiative was created by the Foreign Trade Association of Europe and aims to involve all links in the production chain in a series of measures to ensure full compliance with labour rights and minimum production standards.
In addition, the members of the BSCI Code are not only the members of a specific production chain but external auditing and consultancy firms actively participate in it to ensure that these standards are duly complied with. Thus, not only do the producers and traders themselves have an interest in distinguishing themselves with this quality seal, but also the accredited independent auditing and consulting companies help to ensure high-quality audits and controls that guarantee the consumer that these standards are met.
